AlitraQ is a specialized elemental nutrition that has the highest level of glutamine at 23.3 grams per 1500 kcal. Glutamine nourishes the GI tract and prevents muscle wasting. It is also fortified with arginine, a conditionally essential fatty acid that is depleted during illness or injury. It is specially designed for patients with malabsorption and impaired gastrointestinal function due to severe multiple trauma, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal surgery, severe burns and injury due to radiotherapy or chemotherapy. It has high biologic value protein to help prevent protein energy malnutrition and promote tissue repair and Medium Chain Triglycerides, a fat source that is readily digested and absorbed to help prevent essential fatty acid deficiency. It also contains higher calories and iron to prevent anemia.
